The Allen-Bradley 1746-OB16 module is an output module. It supports electronic protection against overloads and short circuits, but it does not support reverse polarity protection.

The 1746-OB16 module is an I/O module from the Allen-Bradley SLC 500 product line. The 1746-OB16 module is a DC output module which features electronic protection against current overload and short circuit conditions. This protection is based on a thermal cut-out principle: when an overload or short circuit occurs on any particular output channel, the module will limit the current on that channel within milliseconds once the temperature threshold has been reached. Channels without overload or short circuit conditions will continue to operate normally. The 1746-OB16 module does not support reverse polarity protection or protection against wiring to AC power sources. The electronic protection on the 1746-OB16 module is not intended to be a replacement for standard protection devices such as fuses and circuit breakers.

In addition to electronic protection which limits the channel current, the 1746-OB16 module also supports the auto reset of channels on which the current has been limited after an overload or short circuit has occurred. The E-Fuse LED on the module’s front panel lights up when an overload or short circuit occurs. The rated heat dissipation per output point on the 1746-OB16 module is 0.388 Watts. There are 16 output points on the module which are rated for 24 Volts DC signal output. The operating voltage range is 10 to 50 Volts DC. The power requirement of the 1746-OB16 module is 0.28 Amps at 5 Volts DC. The minimum load current is 1 milliamp and the maximum off-state leakage current is 1 milliamp. ESD precautions should be followed during module handling to prevent equipment damage. The module should only be installed when the chassis power is off.

The Allen-Bradley 1746-ITB16 is an SLC 500 Digital DC Input Module. The 1746-ITB16 is a fast response DC sinking input module. This module is equipped with the capability to support a voltage range of 10-30V DC. There are 16 inputs and 16 points per common on the module. Built for fast response applications, the 1746-ITB16 operates efficiently and rapidly. The input module receives and stores analog data in digital format within its data image table. This allows all other fixed and modular SLC 500 processors to retrieve the data. The 1746-ITB16 supports up to eight separate actuators or sensors for a variety of applications to be connected. The input module saves cost and space by using a sharing-based hardware platform with a variety of analog and digital input/output combinations. A convenient feature of the 1746-ITB16 is the removable terminable blocks which allow you to configure your system without re-wiring. The input module also features LED indicators which display the status of the module’s input to make troubleshooting easier. It can be accessed using Ladder Programming Logic.
